No Insurance – Driving In Public Place?

Question:

Can I be prosecuted for having no car insurance whilst inside a HM dockyard which is private land? I was at the time a named driver on another policy

Paula Says:

It all depends on whether or not the dockyard is open to the public. If it is then it is classed as a public place for the purposes of the road traffic acts.

Is it open to the public? Are there any barriers/security gates stopping the public getting in?

Tell me more.

I may be able to get this matter withdrawn for you if it’s not open to the public.

Have you got any points on your licence? You are looking at 6-8 for this.
