Permitting Employee To Drive Without Insurance

Question:

We cancelled a insurance on a vehicle after it was stolen but an admin error meant we cancelled the wrong vehicle and a member of staff had a accident.

Unknowing to us x ltd we wasn’t insured, now me being the company director I’m facing a ban is this legal considering I wasn’t driving and I didn’t cancel the wrong insurance?

I’ve pleaded guilty but the courts don’t seem the listen to the reasons.
