I am e-mailing to enquire about a recent accusation of a collision incident I had in my car.
I am being accused of backing off a residential driveway and hitting the right front wing of another car parked immediately opposite the driveway. Apparently the damage is a crushed front wing, no engine, radiator or management damage just commercial.
I have no recollection of hitting this car as I backed off the driveway and there is certainly no damage to my car whatsoever. I do not believe there any witnesses other than to say my car was indeed parked on the opposite driveway that day.
I obviously drove off with no idea of this event. Can you tell me, should I be found guilty what are the penalties and what can I use or say in my defence?
Many thanks
You are at risk of 5-10 points and a hefty fine I’m afraid. Have you got any points already? If so, how many? Are you a new driver? If so you could be at risk of revocation.
You will probably get summonsed of failing to stop and report an accident as well as driving without due care and attention. You would have a defence to failing to stop and report the accident if you were unaware of it at the time.
